PAIR OF HELLENISTIC HIGH KARAT GOLD EARRINGS WITH GARNET CABOCHONS AND EROS FIGURES Ca. 300 - 100 BC. A pair of gold earrings, each formed from a spiral gold wire shaped into a crescent, embellished with a domed garnet cabochon, drop-shaped on one and circular on the other, set within a beaded frame. Each hoop terminates at one end in a tapering point and at the other in a cast figure of winged Eros, modelled with articulated facial features, layered jewellery, and flexed legs. A fine filigree wire crosses each torso to form a Herakles Knot, with additional granulation and applied ornament. A small loop behind the figure receives the pointed end to complete the fastening.
