Lot no. 52
Pair of large frontals of the same altar in embossed and chiseled silver. Viceregal work. Peru. 18th century.
Each frontal is formed by three sections, bordered by a moulding, also in silver, probably with a wooden core, decorated with borders and rocaille. The central panel presents, in an oval reserve, the embossed anagram of the Virgin Mary in one of them and that of St. Joseph in the second. Around, profuse decoration in which we find two standing angels holding the reserve, an angel's head presiding over it and multiple plant elements and shells, motifs that star in the side panels.
50 x 122 cm each.
