PAIR OF LATE ROMAN/EARLY BYZANTINE TERRACOTTA OIL LAMPS ca. AD 300 - 500. A pair of terracotta oil lamps, including, from the left, a mould made example of Atlante X type with long, pointed nozzle and rounded shoulder. The discus is decorated with a prominent Chi-Rho monogram flanked by alpha and omega, and pierced by two filling holes; the shoulder bears alternating rosettes and circular motifs in relief. The one on the right, also of Atlante X type, has similar structural features with a long nozzle and decorated shoulder, but the discus shows a galloping horse facing right, surrounded by a ring of tear-shaped motifs alternating with quatrefoils; two filling holes are placed within the field.
