PAIR OF ROMAN TERRACOTTA OIL LAMPS WITH MYTHOLOGICAL ANIMALS Ca. AD 1 - 300. A pair of terracotta oil lamps, including, from the left, a mould made example of Loeschcke type I with angular voluted nozzle and sharply defined shoulder; the discus is decorated with an eagle standing with wings spread, holding a branch in its beak, framed by concentric grooves. The one on the right is a Loeschcke type IV lamp with rounded nozzle and volutes at the base; the discus features a winged gryphon advancing to the left, with circular grooves around the field.
