A pair of Louis XVI style gilt-bronze three-light candelabra, after Jean-Charles Delafosse (1734-1789) The design of these candelabras evokes the work of Jean-Charles Delafosse (1734-1791). Delafosse, who was also an ornamentalist, played a major role in defining the Louis XVI style, particularly through the distribution of his engraved collections. A pair of candelabra of the same design, although of the same period, was bequeathed by John Jones to the Victoria & Albert Museum in London in 1882 (INV. 985-1982), where it remains to this day (see H. Ottomeyer, P. Pröschel et al, Vergoldete Bronzen, Munich, 1986, Vol. I, p. 186, fig. 3.9.4.). A pair of style candelabras sold at Christie's Paris, 14 April 2015, lot 242.
