This elegant pair of fauteuils à la reine, characterised by ample proportions and extremely precise carving, is stamped by Claude Louis Burgat, master in 1744.A suite of four armchairs of the same model as our pair sold at Hôtel Drouot, Paris, on 22 June 1982, lot 95; more recently, another set of four virtually identical armchairs, albeit in gilded wood, from the former Jacques Guerlain collection, sold at Christie's London on 28 May 2018, lot 231 (see Fig.1).
