with trapezoidal cabriole backs, in two-tone lacquered, moulded and carved wood. Armrests with scrolls, connecting dice with rosettes. They stand on tapered and fluted legs.
Stamped: "CIYM", Claude Javoy - cabinetmaker. Master on 29 September 1779. He worked on rue d'Argenteuil until around 1783, when he left for Nantes, settling on rue des Hauts-pavés.
Taking advantage of the prestige afforded him by his status as a Parisian craftsman, he soon won commissions from the city's leading merchants. As a result, he had to contend with persecution from the carpenters of Nantes, who used their privileges to try to oust this competitor. Javoy had to fight a long legal battle against their jury, which he won in 1787.
