Lot no. 248
PAIR OF ARMCHAIRS WITH QUEEN BACK, STAMPED I.B LELARGE, FOR JEAN-BAPTISTE III LELARGE, LOUIS XVI PERIOD in natural wood, moulded and carved with flowers and connecting dice, tapered legs with curved flutes. (Minor accidents, missing parts, wear and restoration). A PAIR OF LOUIS XVI PERIOD ARMCHAIRS 'À LA REINE', STAMPED BY I.B LELARGE FOR JEAN-BAPTISTE III LELARGE Jean-Baptiste III Lelarge, awarded the title of Master on 1 February 1775, was the third in a line of cabinet-makers. He inherited an admirable professional conscience from his father. Each piece of his work is perfectly proportioned and crafted, with a choice of top-quality woods, beautiful joints, fine, deep carvings and carefully applied varnishes. Jean-Baptiste III Lelarge was so successful during his lifetime that it is thanks to this "elegantly virile" production that he seems to have surpassed his two elders. Several of his chairs can be found in public collections, including the Louvre, Versailles, Nissim de Camondo and the Wallace Collection in London.
