PAIR OF LARGE BLazONS WITH BIG IMPERIAL ARMS WHICH ADORNED THE CATAFALQUE OF EMPEROR NAPOLEON I DURING THE RETURN OF THE CENDRES On a crowned imperial mantle, with the hand of justice and the sceptre, in velvet entirely and richly embroidered with thread, sequins, canetille and foils, Legion of Honour in silver thread with gold centre and enamel, crown in gold thread. Brown velvet background. Dimensions (embroidery): 65 x 58 cm In green and gold varnished wooden coat-of-arms frames. B.E. An eagle motif is missing from one of the collars. A pair of great coat-of-arms with imperial arms having adorned the catafalque of the Emperor Napoleon I during the return of the ashes Provenance : Former Napoleonic collection of the Palais Princier de Monaco (2nd sale, lot 214). Another pair of coats of arms from the same provenance sold at the same auction. Commentary: Period depictions include motifs with the large imperial coat of arms on the baldachin of the catafalque, particularly during the exhibition of the catafalque at Les Invalides.
