Lot no. 94
Pair of wallpaper panels, circa 1800,
Woodblock printing on ground paper. The panels are decorated with antique vases in bas-relief and filled with abundant bouquets of flowers au naturel. The remarkable design and masterful printing in more than twenty colours are similar to the compositions by J-L Malaine (1745-1809), printed by Hartmann Risler & Cie in Alsace at the end of the 18th century.
Silhouettes and vases cut out and applied later in the centre of architectural niches with a painted sky background. Marouflé on canvas and stretched on panel
