A pair of silver sprinklers, by Jean-Baptiste Navier, 1716-1717 For a sprinkler by this silversmith, see the sale of the Diane collection, Sotheby's Geneva, 16 November 2005, no. 107, probably the same one illustrated in Connaissances des Arts, le XVIIIe siècle, p. 104. Jean-Baptiste Navier was received as a master in Perpignan on 12 June 1712. He was assayer at the Perpignan mint from 1716 to 1763. His wife was the daughter of a silversmith (Finot) and his two daughters in turn married silversmiths (Bachelard and Depierre). He died in 1767. Jean-Baptiste Navier is also known for his works of sacred art. In his 1994 book L'Orfèvrerie en Roussillon, Louis Ausseil noted chalices in various churches in the region: Banyuls-dels-Aspres (south of Perpignan), Bouleternère, Montalba, Pézilla-la-Rivière, Rodès (west of Perpignan) and a silver tray in the Saint-Jean-Baptiste cathedral in Perpignan.
