This type of small chiffonière table, featuring a quartefoil marquetry within a trellis, was very popular around 1775. Although our pair is stamped by André-Louis Gilbert, master in 1774, he is not the only one to have created this model. Comparable models were made by other cabinet-makers such as Godefroy Dester (Fig. 1: Christie's Paris sale, 8 November 2013, lot 202) and Jacques Laurent Cosson (Fig. 2: Sotheby's Monaco sale, lot 202), 4 March 1989, lot 233).
