He studied from 1918 to 1922 at the Budapest Academy of Fine Arts with Viktor Tardos Krenner and Imre Révész, then, from 1922 to 1927, as a master student of János Vaszary. In addition to his work as a freelance painter, he worked as a drawing teacher; Between 1928 and 1946, he was a lecturer in the freehand drawing department at the Budapest University of Applied Sciences. In 1929 Mihaltz went on a study trip to Italy. He was a member of KUT, UME and the Szinyei Society. From 1930 onwards he spent his summers in Szentendre, not far from the capital.
