[PAOLI, Pascal] RAGGUAGLI Dell'Isola di Corsica. The ancestor of the Corsican press.
During his governorship, Pascal Paoli wanted to set up a printing works, the Stamperia Camerale, in Campoloro and then in Corte, with the aim of printing a newspaper for the distribution of news: the Ragguagli dell'Isola di Corsica.
Between 1760 and 1768, 60 issues were printed, some of them extremely rare. Then, in 1768, Pascal Paoli, sensing that the Stamperie was losing its freedom with the arrival of new French battalions and the influx of serious news, decided to transfer the second series of Ragguagli to Tuscany, to be published in Livorno by Giovanni Vincenzo. This new series, which did not have a vignette on the title, was published weekly and ran for 58 issues from 1768 to 1769. They appeared on 4 pages.
1st series: We have the December 1760 issue, the fifth in order of publication, 7 p. in-4°, vignette at the head. Margins a little short but fine condition. Translation available on p. 107 of the Ragguagli edition, a critical edition edited by Graziani and Bitossi. AP
