Milan, Finarte, 9-10 June 1976, lot 46, plate IX (as Paolo Farinati)
Milan, private collection
The drawing, datable to the early decades of the 17th century, analytically reproduces the engraving made by Orazio Farinati (Verona, 1524 ; 1606). The drawing is conducted with particular graphic mastery and was probably executed in the workshop, following the illustrative success of the engraving. It should also be noted that the theme depicted is not found in Paolo's production. Controversial is the date of execution of the plate, which varies, according to scholars, from 1573 to 1583 and then for various successive states, until 1599.
