Lot no. 249
PAOLO TROUBETZKOY Verbania, 1866 - 1938 The trotter Crapon Signed Paolo Troubetzkoy on the base Bronze, height. cm 36 Paolo Troubetzkoy, an animal artist and keen student of the human physiognomy, set himself the goal from the outset of ardently seeking something new and modern, aiming not only to reproduce the expressive mobility of the face with rare effectiveness, but to give the illusion of movement. An innovator, he created his own technique, becoming almost an impressionist of sculpture, able to make his sculptures pervaded by a quiver of life. His works portray the world of high society and the international intelligentsia: unforgettable are the splendid busts dedicated to his fellow countryman Tolstoy, Gabriele D'Annunzio, Arturo Toscanini, Enrico Caruso and George Bernad Shaw, just as his figures of ballerinas, maidens and children have become part of the collective imagination.
