ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BOOKS OF EMBLEMS OF THE RENAISSANCE. First edition, with text in French and offering 78 engravings for the first time, totalling 182 woodcut emblems attributed to Bernard Salomon.
The title is set in a handsome frame with grotesque figures, typical of Jean de Tournes. The copy appears to have been rebound in its original binding, and is in very good condition. Ex-libris A. Denier et Prunier de Saint-André with the motto "Turris Mea Deus". (Cartier n°379) (Mortimer n°410 (Landwher 564).
