PARADIN (Guillaume). Continuation de l'Histoire de nostre temps, jusqu'à l'an mille cinq-cens cinquante-six. Paris, Guillaume Rouillé, 1556. In-folio, granite calf, double gilt fillet, coat of arms in the centre, spine decorated with a repeated numeral, spotted edges (17th century binding). First edition of this work following the Histoire de nostre temps by the same author, published in Latin in 1548, then in French in 1550. A fine Lyon printing with a rich title frame and numerous wood-engraved bands and lettering. Guillaume Paradin (1510-1590), a Burgundian humanist and canon at Beaujeu, also published a Chronique de Savoye (1552) and Mémoires de l'Histoire de Lyon (1573). A copy bound with the arms and cipher of Antoine Barrillon de Morangis, maître des requêtes ordinaire de l'hôtel du roi, intendant de justice de Metz et du pays messin, then of Alençon, Caen and finally Orléans. The extensive library he left at his death in 1686 had been augmented by those of his father, President of the Parliament of Paris, and his uncle, Director of Finance. Joints cracked, headbands faded, minor marginal spotting, small marginal repair to last few leaves, last leaf stained, without blank leaves Mm6 and δ4. Baudrier, IX, 226 - Adams, P-299 - OHR, 246.
