Divided into 26 treatises, it is illustrated with a beautifully framed title, a portrait of the author and nearly 300 in-text woodcuts depicting anatomical figures, surgical instruments, scenes of manipulation, monsters, etc. A rare copy complete with all the text. The few copies preserved in public collections or sold on the market are mostly incomplete. An interesting copy, profusely annotated in the 16th century. Throughout the volume, passages have been underlined and the margins bear numerous comments in Latin, crossed out by the same hand. The treatises on fevers, tumours, playes, pox and plague have been particularly annotated. On the title are two handwritten bookplates, one from the 16th century and one dated 1758. Some 18th century annotations on the first leaves. Some leaves restored including: the title (reassembled with tears, soiled), f. *ii, and the Y quire (pp. 253-264 remounted, with missing lower corners reaching some letters). Freckles, stains, wetness. The volume has suffered from damp and some margins have been cut short, reaching the annotations. Missing the last blank leaf OOiv. Binding rubbed, stained.
