Pasha Johann Friedrich Weitsch. (1723 Hessendamm near Wolfenbüttel - 1802 Salzdahlum Castle) attr; View of Königslutter am Elm A finely glazed view of the Romanesque imperial cathedral from a hill. Weitsch, who is best known for his landscapes and views of southern Lower Saxony, the Braunschweig region and the Harz Mountains, worked as a painter for the Fürstenberg porcelain manufactory and the Stobwasser lacquerware manufactory in Braunschweig, among others. He also created oil paintings from the 1760s onwards. In 1789, he was appointed inspector of the ducal picture gallery in Salzdahlum Castle. As a respected figure in cultural and intellectual life, he also corresponded with Gleim and Lessing. Oil lacquer painting/metal panel. Verso inscribed "(...) Königslutter". 25 cm x 34.5 cm. Frame. Provenance: From the collection of Maria Antonia Pessina de Branconi (1746 - 1793), mistress of Duke Karl Wilhelm Ferdinand von Braunschweig (1735 - 1806), from 1781 in Langenstein Castle near Halberstadt; then in the collection of August Wilhelm Rimpau (1814 - 1892), Langenstein Castle near Halberstadt, inventoried in 1893 by the art historian Wilhelm von Bode (1845 - 1929), who was related to him; owned by the family at Langenstein Castle until 1945; later in various museum collections in the former GDR, including in Berlin, Dessau and Berlin. Berlin, Dessau, Halberstadt, Halle, Mosigkau, Wernigerode and Zeitz; restituted after 1990. Attributed to Pasha Johann Friedrich Weitsch (1723 - 1802). Oil and lacquer painting on metal panel. Inscribed "(...) Königslutter" on the reverse.
