A cheerful work painted in intensely bright colours by the artist, who studied at the academies in Leipzig, Munich and Düsseldorf. His first paintings were shown in 1903/04 at the Saxon Art Exhibition in Dresden and at the Berlin Secession. Horst-Schulze taught at the Royal Academy of Graphic Arts and Book Crafts from 1904, becoming a professor in 1911. The artist, who also worked as a graphic designer and so-called "Kunstgewerbler", was one of the first members of the Deutscher Werkbund in 1907.
