Paul Kother (1878 Leipzig - 1963 Weimar)
Portrait of a young, brunette woman
Excerpt-like composed, expressively characterised portrait of a young woman who gazes penetratingly at the viewer with her dark brown eyes and serious facial expression. Kother, who is one of the most important rediscovered artists of the so-called "lost generation", was strongly influenced artistically by the "Brücke" painters Max Pechstein, Erich Heckel, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner and his friend and brother-in-law Otto Mueller. In 1914, Kother moved to Berlin, where he quickly achieved his first significant successes. As an Expressionist, he was also one of the ostracised "degenerate" artists during the "Third Reich". Oil on canvas, relined. Verso various labels. Wvz. No. Ö 116. 30 cm x 27 cm. Frame.
Oil on relined canvas. The work is registered in the catalogue raisonné under no. P 58.
