Paul Kother (1878 Leipzig - 1963 Weimar) Baltic Sea beach Late Impressionist coastal landscape painted in a muted palette with a sandy beach and small changing houses in the dunes. Kother's oeuvre was strongly influenced by the "Brücke" painters Max Pechstein, Erich Heckel and Ernst Ludwig Kirchner as well as his friend and brother-in-law Otto Mueller. In 1912/13, Kother had his first successful solo and joint exhibitions with Pechstein and Beckmann. In 1914, Kother moved from Dresden to the art metropolis of Berlin, where Herwarth Walden showed him together with Pechstein and Lyonel Feininger in his "Sturm" gallery in 1916. In 1921, the Moeller Gallery dedicated a solo exhibition to him that was praised by Max Osborn; in 1922, Kother was awarded the Prize of Honour of the Prussian Academy of Arts by Max Liebermann. During the National Socialist era, Kother was also one of the ostracised modern artists. Oil on canvas; r. a. monogr.; 39 cm x 55.5 cm. Oil on canvas. Monogrammed.
