Paul VERLAINE. Autograph poem signed, Fête Galante 1 page in-12 on hospital administrative paper (crack repaired).
Famous poem from the Fêtes galantes (1869), where it is entitled Le Faune; here Fête Galante.
Under the signature, Verlaine wrote "Hôpital Broussais". The poem consists of two quatrains:
"An old terracotta faun
Rit au centre des boulingrins"...
There is a variant at the beginning of the 4th line: "Néfaste" (for "Mauvaise"); the 5th line contains an error (rectified in the edition): "Qui m'ont conduit et t'a conduit".
