Lot no. 1756
Paul Wilhelm Keller-Reutlingen. (1854 Reutlingen - 1920 Munich)
Seated peasant girl in a meadow with poppies
Rare Impressionist motif, probably painted around 1904, by the artist, who studied at the Stuttgart School of Art and the Munich Academy. In addition to Berlin and the Munich Glaspalast, he also exhibited his paintings at the Munich Secession, of which he was a founding member in 1893. The artist's main subjects were evening landscapes with farmsteads, often by a river, whose depiction is characterised by intense, freshly glowing accents of colour and strong, effective contrasts of light, staffed with peasant girls as duck or goose herders.
