PAULHAN (Jean). Braque le Patron. Paris, Fernand Mourlot, 1945. In-folio, olive morocco, on the first plate a large cubic decoration of large surfaces superimposed obliquely in brown and grey morocco, light grey, black or green box, certain surfaces striped with fillets or listels, on the whole the name of Braque in grey then white letters, grey nubuc lining, gilt edges on witnesses, cover and spine, half-maroquin folder, case (Creuzevault). First edition of this collection devoted to Braque, which includes Jean Paulhan's famous text, Braque le patron, followed by Réflexions de Georges Braque, a collection of aphorisms which include the following: If the painter does not despise painting, let him fear to make a canvas that is better than he is.
It is illustrated with 19 colour reproductions of the artist's paintings and, at the head, an original colour lithograph numbered and signed by Georges Braque.
Edition of 235 copies, this one of 225 copies on Arches vellum.
Remarkable binding by Creuzevault with cubist decoration.
