In pale gold, on a neat blank with centred strike. A superb example.
David of Burgundy was one of the bastard sons of Duke Philip III of Burgundy, who imposed him as Bishop of Utrecht in order to strengthen his hold over the Netherlands. His coins depict King David, 3rd King of Israel and father of Solomon, principal author of the psalms and musician to the King at the court of Saul. He is abundantly depicted in the books of hours of the Middle Ages as the archetype of the wise and powerful Christian king, the guarantor of harmony.
