Textual reprint of the 1572 edition, followed by a Notice sur la vie et les ouvrages de Peletier by Charles Pagès. Illustrated with 4 folding plates, gilt lettering, headbands and lamp-ends. Peletier's poem is preceded by an important notice on Peletier du Mans by Charles Pagès. Limited edition of 150 numbered copies, this one no. 1 printed for the President of the Republic, Félix Faure, on the occasion of his visit to Savoie. A tribute to Félix Faure is printed at the head of the book. The work has not been republished since its publication, the original edition being impossible to find. Jacques Peletier (Le Mans 1517 - Paris 1583), a French physician and poet, was taken with a taste for travel; in 1557 he visited Italy, then in 1570 he travelled through Switzerland, from Basel to Geneva.
