His hands grasp weapons (?) on his thighs. This type of elaborate pendant is commonly known as a 'cacique pendant', and many depict a high-ranking man transforming himself into his spirit animal companion. Gold. 43 x 46 mm; 12.84 g Tairona period, 900-1600 A Tairona Gold Alloy Shaman Effigy Pendant. Large pendant in the form of a standing human male. His elaborate headdress includes two birds facing front and profile zoomorphic flanges at each side of his head. His hands clutch weapons (?) at his thighs. This type of elaborate pendant is popularly referred to as a "cacique pendant", and many represent a high ranking male person in transformation to his spiritual animal companion. 900-1600 A.D. Provenance Letter from Mary Hamlin, Sotheby's, 15 June 1994 with mention of the pendant Accompanied by a gold test.
