Paris, Jean Orry, 1613. 4 parts in one volume in-4, fawn morocco basane, multiple framing of various roulettes and gilt straight and dotted fillets, rich composition of gilt small irons of foliage and flowers in the spandrels and in a large central diamond-shaped cartouche, coat of arms in the centre, smooth mute spine decorated throughout with a cartouche decorated with small irons, gilt edges, traces of fastenings (Binding of the period). Important critical edition of the Satires of Persia, with commentaries and annotations by Cornutus, Élie Vinet, Giovanni Britannico, Filippo Beroaldo, Ange Politien, Pierre Pithou and Théodore Marcile. Superb binding decorated with the coat of arms of Guillaume Fouquet de La Varenne. Having entered the service of Catherine de Bourbon, Guillaume Fouquet (1560-1616) was noticed by Henri de Navarre in 1580 and entered the service of the future king as a portmanteau. He played an active role in the key events of the reign, until the regicide of 1610, in return for which Henri IV successively appointed him adviser to his Councils of State and Privy Council, captain and governor of La Flèche and then Angers, knight of the Order of Saint-Michel and comptroller-general of the Post Office. He also ceded him the lands of the seigneury of La Flèche, of which Fouquet de La Varenne became the first seigneur by engagement; in twenty years, he completely transformed the town.
