Peter Breithut was an Austrian artist. Until 1913/1914, he worked primarily as a medalist, after which he turned to painting and graphics. Breithut received training as a goldsmith, in 1887/1888 he attended a special course in chasing art at the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts with S. Schwarz, and in 1897/1998 he briefly studied sculpture at the Vienna Academy with E. Hellmer. After studying in France in 1912 and 1913, he worked primarily as a painter and graphic artist. From 1902 to 1921, he was a member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus, and until 1914 he also exhibited at the Vienna Secession. From 1920 to 1930, Breithut was a member of the Hagenbund; a memorial exhibition with watercolours and portrait drawings was organized there for him in 1930. He was married to the painter Eugenie Breithut-Munk. Portrait medal selection: "Archduke Franz Salvator", "Kaspar von Zumbusch", "Court actress Babette Devrient".
