PETRARCHA. Il Petrarcha, con l'espositione d'Alessandro Vellutello, di novo ristampato con le figure a i Triomphi, et con più cose utili in varii luoghi aggiunte. Venice, Gabriel Giolito, 1550. In-4, supple vellum with overlays, gilt fillet in border, coat of arms in centre, smooth spine decorated, gilt edges (Binding of the period). A fine Venetian edition of the Canzoniere and Triumphs with commentary by Alessandro Vellutello, the most widely distributed of the sixteenth century, with no fewer than twenty-eight editions and reprints.
This edition is decorated with a rich architectural frame to the title, a full-page map of Vaucluse and seven figures in the text, including a cinerary urn bearing the effigies of Laure and Petrarch on the verso of f. *2 and six headpieces illustrating the Triumphs, all wood-engraved.
A very fine copy in its first gilt vellum binding bearing the arms of a contemporary named under the shield: Nicolas Dupont. This provenance is very rare and little known.
Slight wetness in the margin of the B book; a broken nerve.
