Limited edition of 1999 numbered copies, this is one of 10 copies hors commerce on satin-finished alfa paper (No. XX). Signed autograph letter from Peyrefitte to Henri de Montherlant "as a tribute to a friendship that is, if not special, at least very affectionate and also very grateful". The two writers enjoyed a close friendship and a rich correspondence. It was through Montherlant that Peyrefitte published his first novel with Jean Vigneau. Also included: - Typescript letter signed by Peyrefitte to Pius XII, Whit Sunday 1955 (6 p. in-4). Numerous handwritten corrections and additions. The letter is Peyrefitte's response to the virulent criticism of his work Les clés de saint Pierre by Radio Vatican. - 2 photographs of Roger Peyrefitte by Robert Cohen in Rome in 1957 and Taormina in 1958. Slight rubbing to the binding, spine unstained, cover browned with a tear in the margin but not missing, spine damaged, handwriting in pencil and blue pen on the last blank page.
