June 1966. Les Demoiselles de Rochefort are the unforgettable heroines of Jacques Demy's enchanted film. Although they are not identical twins born under the sign of Gemini, Catherine Deneuve (Libra) and Françoise Dorléac (Aries) have an uncanny family resemblance, even under wigs. The subtle elegance of their dresses plays a big part in the visual perfection of their first scene. The entire colour palette of the film is derived from these outfits. The magician who designed them, Jacqueline Moreau, had already worked on Jacques Demy's previous films.
