Lot no. 1
PHILIPS AUGUSTYN IMMENRAET (Antwerp, 1627 - 1679) Landscape with Shepherds among Classical Ruins Oil on canvas, 41.3X59.3 cm Provenance: London, Christie's, 8 July 1998, lot 180 (as a follower of Pieter Bout) Cologne, Lempertz, 17 May 2014, lot 1197 Milan, private collection The landscape painter Philips Augustijn Immenraet, while adhering to the Flemish Baroque taste, introduced a new luminosity and his works already show a rocaille and pre-Romantic character. Like many of his colleagues, the painter sojourned in Italy and this influence can be felt in the Venetian and Classicist flavour of his compositions. The work is accompanied by a photocopied critical file by Raffaella Colace.
