PHOENICIAN TERRACOTTA ASTARTE.
Ca. 500 - 300 BC. A terracotta votive plaque with Astarte pressed from a mould, depicted standing nude with both hands supporting her breasts from below. The contours of the body are subtly defined, with a faintly indicated waist and rounded hips. A beaded necklace encircles the neck. Facial features include almond-shaped eyes, a straight nose, and a small mouth. The hair is arranged in plaited strands cascading over the shoulders. The underside is flat and unworked.
