The assemblage of various fragments and the title create a peculiar tension, which is typical of the surrealist movement. Gala Éluard Dalí, called Gala (1894-1982), was married to Salvador Dalí. She was a well-known muse of the 20th century and inspired numerous artists, especially those of Surrealism. Condition: The work is in good condition with a small tear lower right and a few light stains at the margins. The frame shows only slight signs of use. The image dimensions are 22 x 12.7 cm, while the sheet dimensions are 22.8 x 13.3 cm. The frame is 43 x 34 cm in size. Max Ernst (1891–1976) The German painter, graphic artist and sculptor Max Ernst studied philosophy, psychology and art history at the University of Bonn. As a part of his studies, he worked on the art of mental illness and visited often museums. Thanks to the friendship with August Macke and his encouragement, Ernst decided to devote himself entirely to painting in 1912. Along with Johnannes Baargeld and Hans Arp, he co-founded the DADA group in 1919. In 1922, he moved to Paris, where he joined the Surrealist circle and became one of its most important exponents. During World War Second, he went in exile to America in 1941. In 1953, Max Ernst went back to France and became a French citizen.
