On 26 December 1944, Remichampagne was the scene of an attack by the Combat Command Reserve (CCR) of the 4th American Armoured Division, under the command of General Wendell Blanchard. The aim of the operation was to break the encirclement of Bastogne by advancing towards the Clochimont crossroads, then in the direction of Sibret to join the Neufchateau-Bastogne road. The main assault was led by the 37th Tank Battalion (Lt. Col. Creighton Abrams) and the 53rd Armoured Infantry Battalion (Lt. Col. George Jaques), with artillery support from the 94th Armoured Field Artillery Battalion and the 177th Field Artillery Battalion.
