Salvador Dalí went on to produce a series of gold coins in his effigy and that of Gala, his muse, the equivalent of the Louis d'Or, issued by Jean Schneider from 1966 to 1975. These coins were created by the artist who had a fascination with gold. They are struck in 900/00 gold and are decorated with the profile of Dalí and his wife Gaya on the obverse and a plant decoration on the reverse.
On the present lot, on the edge of the obverse of each piece, numbering "1204" and "1202". On the reverse, signature of the artist, indication of the date "1966", title mark "900" and master's mark “HF” of the Huguenin Foundry.
