Very rare second edition, actually the third, of Ronsard's Amours. Two states of the second edition are known, identifiable by two remarks. Our copy presents some differences with these two states. An apparently comparable copy was described in 1915 by Émile Chatelain as a forgery. It was the meticulous examination and comparison of the various copies that finally enabled Barbier-Mueller to classify this edition as the third and not a counterfeit or an additional state of the second edition. In our copy : - the errata has been retained, but the errors have been corrected in the printed text (except for two); - the initial signature q4 on page 267 has been corrected to r4 ; - the pagination error on page 212 has been corrected; - all other pagination errors are present; - Finally, a difference in the ligature of the Greek characters on the title page makes it possible to identify this edition from the second. The 32-leaf musical supplement found in the original edition is sometimes added at the end. For Barbier-Mueller, who missed it, this third edition is extremely rare. In 40 years [he] has only come across one bastard copy. Vellum damaged and stained with missing parts, spotting at foot of volume.
