PIETER MULIER I (Haarlem, c. 1600 - 1659) Fortune of the Sea Signed on the rock at lower right: PM Oil on panel, cm 66X84.5 Provenance: Amsterdam, Christie's, 18 November 1993, lot 126 Bibliography: https://rkd.nl/imageslite/554505 According to the RKD, Pieter Mulier the Elder became a member of the Guild of St. Luke of Haarlem in 1638. The artist was known and successful for his Italian landscapes and seascapes painted in the manner of Simon de Vlieger and Jan van Goyen and his style particularly influenced his son Pieter Mulier, known as the Tempest.
