Red cabbages, carrots and cardoons are the signature of our painter. Although Pieter Snyers developed the art of portraiture during a stay in England between 1720 and 1726, it was in his complex compositions of fruit and vegetables that he proved himself to be a great master. By multiplying the points of view, Snyers offers us varied and innovative arrangements of fruit and vegetables, which surprise us with their inventiveness. On our lovely little copper, Pieter Snyers has meticulously selected fruit and vegetables to offer us an autumnal assortment: grapes, apples, pears, pumpkin, chestnuts, strawberries and cardoons. Another small copper by Snyers that recently went on sale illustrates our painter's creativity in the field of still life1.
