Lot no. 2886
Pietro Sanguineti (1964 Stuttgart - 2023 Berlin) "Cry". Original title Aluminium and lacquer, 2003 As is often the case in his oeuvre, this work by Sanguineti is also a word-object, whereby he combines the three individual letters in a distorted perspective and larger representation. This lends the word a strongly figurative and logo-like character. Sanguineti primarily devoted himself to language as a working medium, using English buzzwords such as "desire", "lust", "fake", "fantasy", "forever", "magic", "now", "porn", "toxic", etc.; he visualised these ambiguous, appealing terms as media projections, light boxes or three-dimensional, often distorted letters that are reminiscent of the garish aesthetics of advertising slogans. His word sculptures combine elements of pop art with the signalling character of graffiti and the linguistic sound of hip hop. Sanguineti studied at the Academy in Stuttgart, in particular under the important conceptual artist Joseph Kosuth. His works can be found in renowned collections such as the Daimler Art Collection (Berlin/Stuttgart), the Munich Reinsurance Collection (Munich), the Carhart Collection (Basel) and the Mercedes Benz Collection (Munich). Signed, inscribed and dated. 2003. up to 60 cm x 110 cm x 28 cm. Oliver Zybok (ed.): Pietro Sanguineti.
