Lot no. 220
Pipe Made from carved fruitwood and glass. The bowl is richly carved with a couple in love: the gentleman is a soldier and the lady, a civilian, is seated in front of him. On the back of the bowl, the same couple is depicted, with the gentleman presenting the lady with a bouquet of flowers. Surrounding these two figures are curious soldiers, flanked by various animals and lush vegetation. The stem is equally richly decorated, featuring a man covering his nakedness (presumably Adam), vegetation, animals including a deer’s head, snakes and lizards. The eyes are made of sulphide.
