PIRON (Alexis). Complete works. Paris, M. Lambert, 1776. 7 volumes in-8, red morocco, triple gilt fillet, coat of arms in the centre, spine decorated, inner lace, gilt edges (Period binding). First posthumous edition of the complete works of Alexis Piron, published by Jean-Antoine Rigoley de Juvigny.
This is the most complete collective edition of the works of Alexis Piron (1689-1775), a prolific playwright, songwriter and satirical poet from Dijon who riddled Voltaire with his epigrams. It contains in particular all the plays given by the author to the Théâtre François, as well as an important life of the author by Rigoley de Juvigny, placed at the head of the first volume, and a fine portrait of the author by Augustin de Saint-Aubin.
A superb copy in large paper bound with the arms of Marie-Thérèse de Savoie (1756-1805), countess of Artois, daughter of Victor-Amédée III of Sardinia and wife of the future king Charles X.
