VENETIAN PAINTER OF THE EIGHTEENTH TO NINETEENTH CENTURIES
View of the Grand Canal with the Salute Church
Oil on canvas, 55X79 cm
Provenance:
Private collection
The painting depicts the Grand Canal with the Salute church and the image stretches as far as the Campo and the church of the Carità, whose bell tower collapsed in 1744; beyond it one can see the campanile of San Trovaso. On the left, beyond the Basilica, looms the church and abbey of San Gregorio and the 15th-century tower of Palazzo Venier, demolished in the 19th century. The canvas is compared to one by Canaletto belonging to the Houston Museum.
