In-8, aubergine half-basane, smooth spine decorated, speckled edges (Binding of the period). Unique edition, uncommon, with 4 folding plates including a lithographed frontispiece and 3 maps. These are interesting letters concerning the military operations undertaken by Mehemet Ali, notably in Arabia and the Peloponnese (the Comte de Laborde was an ardent philhellene). Jules Planat, a former artillery officer in the Imperial Guard, stayed in Egypt from 1823 to 1828, where he was commissioned by Mehemet Ali to train Egyptian troops in modern Western methods.
