Polychrome earthenware plaque depicting four female allegories symbolising the Four Parts of the World according to Cesar Ripa's Iconologia, from left to right, around the globe: Europe, crowned, holding the sceptre, a mitre at her feet as the cradle of the Church, one foot on a cornucopia pouring out musical instruments indicating her superiority in the arts of peace. Africa, dark-skinned, holding an elephant's tusk on her right shoulder. America, with feathered headdress, bow in one hand and arrow in the other. Asia, her head crowned with a wreath of flowers, palms in her right hand and showing a perfume burner on the ground spreading the scents of the Orient, trees on the left and ancient architecture on the right.
