ETRUSCAN PLAQUE Rectangular belt buckle in silver leaf on a bronze core. In the centre Artemis Potnia Theron, mistress of the animals, dressed dress decorated to the ankles, head turned to her right head to her right, arms outstretched at her sides flanked on either side by leaping dogs and and dioscouri, wearing a short girdled chiton wearing a short girdled chiton, with one leg forward archaic smile and her hair tucked behind her ears behind her ears and falling down her back, tied with a net, framed by a frieze of ovals. Southern Etruria, late 7th century B.C. Height: 6.5 cm - Width: 5 cm - Gross weight: 18 gr. PROVENANCE - Collection of Dr K. Deppert, Frankfurt-am-Main Main (Germany). - Päselt Collection, Karlsruhe (Germany); acquired from the former in July 1970. - Christie's London sale, 2 April 2014, lot 61. - Private collection. The Musée du Louvre holds at least two very similar plates [Entry no. : MNE 708 and MNE 709] described as belt or garment belt or garment applique. There is also a pair of similar silver belt buckles in the Vatican (inv.no. 13387-88).
