French Polynesia, large "Putoka" marine conch made from the sea snail "charonia tritonis", or "giant triton", or "Neptune's trumpet". The end of the shell has been cut off to create a terminal mouthpiece. The "Putoka" conch was used to unite the population during tribal wars. Nowadays, it heralds the return of the fishermen to the sea and takes part in festivities. Superb pearly shades. Length: 30 cm
